Pajama Party: Apple Cinnamon Waffle Sticks

In celebration of Vegan MoFo, I’m doing a month of themed dinner party ideas! Here’s the theme for the second week…

Slide your pillow into the ties of your sleeping bag.  Grab your coziest flannel pajamas and a flashlight for telling scary stories under the covers.  Be prepared to dish all of the dirt regarding your current crush and leave the sleeping mask at home, because the night will be filled with a marathon of Say Anything, Some Kind of Wonderful, and Clueless.  That’s right, friends, we’re having a pajama party.

To kick things off, we’ll start with an appetizer of apple cinnamon waffle sticks.  In the battle of pancakes versus waffles, waffles always win.  While I enjoy the crisp outer edges of pancakes, waffles are even better because every nook and cranny provides a satisfying crunch and a little bowl for holding sticky sweet maple syrup.  Poor pancakes never stood a chance.

To make these waffle sticks, I turned to Bobbie’s enticing apple cinnamon waffle recipe on The Vegan Crew.  It has all of those fall flavors that make you feel warm and cozy, like wearing fuzzy slippers.  Made with plenty of grated apple, this recipe is ideal if you’ve recently visited a haunted apple orchard.  (My husband also says that these are the best waffles ever.  High praise!)  The waffles can be made ahead of time, frozen, and toasted later in the toaster oven as hunger strikes after several rounds of Celebrity.  Or make them fresh, cut the waffles into slices, and serve them in cups that have been filled with a few squeezes of maple syrup for dipping.

So hurry up and get your waffle sticks and settle into your sleeping bag!  Grease is about to start, and I heard there’s going to be a sing-along.

  1. I read this one and kept saying “oh I love that…” so to summerize, I love wearing jammies, Paul Frank, Say Anything, Clueless, waffles (especially apple cinnamon) and Grease! What a great pj party it would be!

    • The pictures are true then; they were delicious! I’m happy I still have more in my freezer for future waffle-hankerings!

    • Good call! Maybe we could all go to the roller rink before the sleepover and work up an appetite. I’d better brush up on my roller skate limbo skills before then!

  2. A pajama party? With waffle sticks?! I am do there.

I think the only pajama parties I’ve ever been to irl had boring kid food like plain popcorn.

  3. Oh, my goodness! I’ve been looking forward to learning what this week’s party would be. I was so surprised to see my name and waffles in the mix — what an honor! I love how you turned the waffles into a fun finger food. Pajamas, classics, sing-alongs and more? I’m *so* there! :)

    • Yay! I’ll save a spot for your sleeping bag! Your waffles are so perfect for this time of year when apples and cinnamon just hit the spot! David just gleefully had another one (from the freezer) for breakfast!

  4. Great start to the party. Love the waffle sticks and especially the cups holding the waffles — your beautiful pottery of course!

  5. I love the combination of apple and cinnamon in sweet things. I’ve never eaten waffles before but I’m sure I would love these ones. Looking forward to the rest of your pajama party!

    • Oh, me too! Apples and cinnamon were just made to go together. I haven’t had apple cinnamon muffins in a million years, but they were always a favorite.

  6. Yes, indeed ditto to what Andrea said. I never saw the mini versions of your pottery, they are so cute and are great vessels for the waffle sticks. Great ideas.

    • Thanks so much, Gigi! When I made those four little cups I wasn’t really sure how I’d use them. Luckily the waffle sticks arrived with the answer!

  7. As someone doing a month of waffles for MoFo I can’t help but agree that waffles kick pancakes’ butt any day. I’ve never done waffle sticks before though… Intrigued.

  8. I don’t know where to start in telling you how much I love this post and this theme. Clueless? I’m in. Some Kind of Wonderful? Yes, please. Crush talk and scary stories? I used to live for these things. Waffles? So much better than pancakes. Pajamas? My preferred attire. Parties in my pajamas? My preferred type of party.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of this week holds!

    • Those are all deliciously good things, aren’t they? I’m beginning to think that my real life needs a lot more pajama parties! :D

    • Isn’t Clueless such a light, feel-good movie? It’s the perfect accompaniment for a drizzle of maple syrup and a dunk of a waffle stick!
