I'm taking a break from food today to celebrate a big milestone in our family. While she will always be a kitten to me, Jezebel turned 16 years old this summer.
Being the legal driving age in the U.S. is obviously a big marker in a cat's life. While her desires usually lay in the treat cabinet, this time David and I decided to treat her to some wheels of her own, even though she slept through Drivers Ed.
As luck would have it, that perfectly prepared her for her current driving life…
In all seriousness, at the glorious age of 16, I feel so blessed that Jezebel is still full of spunk, energy, and spirit. She wakes us up in the morning to remind us that breakfast hours have started, greets us at the door when we get home, begrudgingly grooms Avon, and spends many content hours lounging in the sun.
That is a reason to celebrate. And I couldn't think of a better way than getting all Oprah on her. "You get a car, and you get a… Oh, wait. Actually, there's only one car."
This car bed ticks all of Jezebel's preferences. She can sit inside of it on the comfortable red polka dot cushion. It has a vinyl windshield for peeking through to the outside world, and with a bit of squeezing, there's enough room for two.
(In classic little brother style, Avon was eager to take the car for a spin as well.)
It's also a great gift for kitties at large, because this car bed was made by Josie Liem, who runs the Whiskers' Syndicate. It is the first and only cat sanctuary in Bandung, Indonesia.
All proceeds from her store go to the sanctuary, which helps abused, stray, and neglected cats. By purchasing this car bed, it also helps felines in another part of the world. It's a win/win.
The material used on the cat bed comes from unsold or excess product from textile mills or garment manufacturers. That means that each car is unique. They're also animal hair-free (until Jezebel and Avon added their own). 😉

Now Jezebel is able to road trip without leaving her living room, which is her preferred way of travel. And when she needs to pull over for snacks, the treat cabinet is only steps away. What more could a cat want?

Yes, Avon is happy to take over wherever he goes. He wants to be in the middle of everything, and he doesn’t make not cuddling an option. It’s good, I think, that we adopted him as a kitten so Jezebel took on a mothering role.
