Vegan restaurant options in Decorah, Iowa include colorful bowls, cozy comfort food, and tempting breakfasts.

Decorah is a charming small town in the Driftless Region of Iowa.
It’s widely known for its bluffs, waterfalls, Luther College, and famous eagles.
What is less well known is that there are some vegan-friendly gems in Decorah, Iowa restaurants too!
Blazing Star
Visit Blazing Star for produce-filled bowls topped with flavorful sauces.
(Note that this is a picture of their old location. They’re now on Water Street in Decorah.)
Most of the items on the menu of this vegetarian restaurant are vegan by default.
They serve a variety of hearty bowls that are substantive and delicious.
Add toothsome oyster mushrooms or baked tofu for an extra pop of flavor & nutrients.

The Family Table
It’s a blast from the past at Family Table Restaurant. It’s an old school diner that is popular with locals.
In addition to all of the non-vegan standards you’d expect, they have a bunch of clearly marked vegan options!
The prices hearken back to another time too with a $7.99 veggie burger and fries, meatless chicken strips for $1.79 each, and vegan nacho fries for $7.99.
The food is what’s described on the box – no frills but tasty.
Feeling breakfast-y? Grab plant pancakes with raspberry or strawberry topping.
Magpie Coffeehouse
For another good breakfast option, hit up Magpie Coffeehouse. They make an excellent soy latte.
While you’re there, peruse the vegan section of their menu.
I recommend the loaded toast with avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers, and balsamic onions.
Or if potatoes are calling you, check out the tater scramble with tomatoes, onions, spinach, and roasted red peppers.
Portobello mushrooms & avocado can be added for an additional charge.
They also have a hummus platter & hummus wrap.
Oneota Community Co-op
While visiting Decorah, pick up groceries at Oneota Community Co-op.
They have organic produce and vegan specialty products.
For a quick breakfast or lunch, check out their deli, where they have a few rotating vegan options.
